We are conscious that there has been a lot in this blog recently about politics and little about food and drink. It is time to redress the balance.

The manufacturer of one of Scotland's food icons has called in the receivers. This is not all bad news. They are likely - given recent history (as well as Scotland's liking for this particular bonbon) to find a buyer. But, it is worrying news, and if there is no prospect of a sale, we may have to mount a rescue bid. Please start looking behind the sofa for any spare change; discarded pan drops will not be accepted.
