Uh Oh!

Now Wilma is on the war path:

...AIR FORCE RECONNAISSANCE PLANE REPORTED 884 MB...THE LOWEST
MINIMUM PRESSURE EVER MEASURED IN A HURRICANE IN THE ATLANTIC
BASIN...

"ALL INTERESTS IN THE FLORIDA KEYS AND THE FLORIDA PENINSULA SHOULD
CLOSELY MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF EXTREMELY DANGEROUS HURRICANE WILMA
."

A break in the clouds

The young PG drew this interesting view from the summit of Arthur's Seat (the geological feature, not this blog) this weekend. I foresee great things for a young man of such obvious talent.

Catastrophe

Katrina_10_1

Hurricane Katrina wreaks her particular brand of havoc. Across the southern states of the US people tell it as it is. Nature raw in tooth and claw.

To help, go here and here.

UPDATE: The Times-Picayune is blogging the rolling news.

UPDATE (1 September): A sober analysis from the WSJ

Run

Katrina does not look pleasant...at all.

COASTAL STORM SURGE FLOODING OF 18 TO 22 FEET ABOVE NORMAL TIDE
LEVELS...LOCALLY AS HIGH AS 28 FEET...ALONG WITH LARGE AND DANGEROUS
BATTERING WAVES...CAN BE EXPECTED NEAR AND TO THE EAST OF WHERE THE
CENTER MAKES LANDFALL.  SOME LEVEES IN THE GREATER NEW ORLEANS AREA
COULD BE OVERTOPPED.  SIGNIFICANT STORM SURGE FLOODING WILL OCCUR
ELSEWHERE ALONG THE CENTRAL AND NORTHEASTERN GULF OF MEXICO COAST.
NOAA BUOY 42040 LOCATED ABOUT 50 MILES EAST OF THE MOUTH OF THE
MISSISSIPPI RIVER RECENTLY REPORTED WAVES HEIGHTS OF AT LEAST 46
FEET.

Update: It is, of course, all President Bush's fault... (Hat-tip: Wizbang)
